“The new Fiesta is yet another car in Ford’s lineup that delivers class-leading fuel economy,” said Barb Samardzich, vice president, Global Powertrain Engineering. “From Super Duty to Fusion Hybrid and the new Mustang V-6, Ford is committed to fuel economy leadership with every new vehicle it introduces in all segments.”
The Ford Fiesta 40 mpg, achieved with Ford’s new six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission, is 5 mpg better than the Honda Fit and 4 mpg better than the Toyota Yaris.
Fiesta’s class-leading fuel efficiency follows Fusion Hybrid – America’s most fuel efficient midsize sedan – and other fuel economy champs such as the Ford Escape Hybrid, Mercury Mariner Hybrid and Ford Ranger pickup. For 2011, the streak continues with the Mustang V-6, Ford Super Duty and now the responsive, sporty and economical Fiesta. Moving forward, Ford is committed to being a fuel economy leader in each segment in which it competes.
The Fiesta achieves its best-in-segment fuel figures thanks to a host of fuel-saving technologies not normally seen at this price level. To increase fuel economy, Fiesta features a new 1.6-liter Duratec® engine with Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) that delivers 120 horsepower, an aggressive deceleration fuel shutoff and an engine accessory drive system that improves efficiency by reducing the energy it takes to power the air conditioner and alternator.
In addition, the Fiesta also features the PowerShift transmission, a six-speed automatic that combines the fuel benefits of a manual with the convenience of an automatic. Combine that with electric power-assisted steering, another fuel saver and some aerodynamic optimizations and you have a car that can go a long way on a single tank of fuel.
“We worked hard to deliver the class-leading fuel economy Ford is becoming synonymous for,” said Steve Pintar, Fiesta chief nameplate engineer. “To be the only vehicle in the segment to deliver 40 mpg is something we feel consumers will appreciate.”
The 2011 Fiesta with standard five-speed manual transmission is EPA rated at 28 mpg city and 37 mpg highway.
These efficiency innovations combine with the stylish and aerodynamically clean Fiesta body design to efficiently slip through the wind with both fuel savings and reduced wind noise.
Fiesta is built for North American markets at Ford’s manufacturing facility in Cuautitlan, Mexico. The vehicle goes on sale in four-door sedan and five-door hatchback body styles – with the sedan starting at $13,995, including destination charges – at Ford dealerships this summer.
Fiesta Performance--
• Engine- Fiesta gets the most out of every corner, thanks to the technical precision only a Ford-tuned suspension can offer. Taking on straightaway’s is a smooth affair, too, when you combine electric power-assisted steering with the proprietary Ford invention, active nibble control. Covert aerodynamic design and critical technology such as the class-exclusive PowerShift six-speed automatic and 1.6L Ti-VCT Duratec® I4 engine with twin-independent variable cam timing make it a responsive and fuel-responsible driving experience.
• Fuel- Rapid-fire shifting is enhanced by a powertrain control module making real-time adjustments, producing efficient mobility. Fiesta also boasts many aerodynamic design characteristics that help minimize air resistance and increase fuel efficiency, such as the aero-shaped body-mounted mirrors and the line cut into the rear taillamps. The optional Super Fuel Economy Package offers additional aerodynamic details such as underbody shields and blockers on the lower grille.
•
Ride & Handling Standard- Features such as electric power-assisted steering (EPAS), and class-exclusive* available Hill Start Assist, deliver confidence and control, and contribute to Fiesta's overall intense driving experience. EPAS uses speed-sensitive steering and active nibble control technology to help provide feedback and confidence at highway speeds. AdvanceTrac® ESC automatically applies the brakes and modulates engine torque whenever it detects wheelslip. Skidding and fishtailing is avoided by controlling understeer and oversteer. It also helps maintain control under conditions such as ice, gravel or rain, providing confident stopping power.
• Power- The available class-exclusive* PowerShift six-speed automatic provides torque to the wheels 100 percent of the time, for an extra-connected feel. It’s equipped with a leak-free dry clutch technology and a neutral idle mode that helps eliminate drag and contributes to fuel efficiency. It’s also maintenance-free – with a fill-for-life transmission fluid that requires no dipstick – and designed to last up to 150,000 miles.
• Suspension- With a standard MacPherson strut front suspension, 22mm front sway bar and twist-beam rear suspension, the 2011 Fiesta is ready to deliver excitement around every corner. Its standard electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) system is Ford-tuned to offer refined overall driving dynamics. It works with a software-based technology called active nibble control – a Ford proprietary invention – to actively detect and minimize undesirable rotational vibration experienced by drivers, particularly while driving at highway speeds. This means that with the Fiesta, taking on straightaways will be a smooth affair.

Officially Official: 2011 Ford Fiesta rated at 40 mpg highway ~ www.autoblog.com May 17th, 2010
The EPA has finished calculating the fuel economy of the 2011 Fiesta and as Ford projected, its new baby has hit 40 miles per gallon. The official numbers from the Feds are 29 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway for Fieestas with the new six-speed dual-clutch Powershift gearbox. Those highway numbers top the Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit by four and five mpg, respectively.
Fiestas with the base five-speed manual gearbox get a rating of 28 mpg city and 37 mpg highway. All North American Fiestas for now are equipped with a 120 horspower, 1.6-liter inline four regardless of which gearbox is selected. The first batches of Fiestas should be on their way to dealers in the coming weeks now that production has started.
